There’s a really cool art show that opened today out in San Francisco called Here Be Monsters. If you live out that way you should really stop by. It runs til the end of Feb. and was put on by Aidan Monahan & Doug Fortin of One Shot Tattoos.
Aidan tattooed my feet a few years back while he was working up in Rochester, NY and they’re some of my favorite tattoos that I have. I feel honored to be a part of the Here Be Monsters show and got my piece there just in the nick of time. I feel like I perpetually live in the 25th hour and hopefully before I die I can somehow get away from living like that haha! But in all seriousness I am super excited to be involved with something so cool! Check out the facebook event page by CLICKING HERE.

A sneak peak at the gallery of monsters.

Late nights, caffeine, and lots of spit.
As soon as I heard what the theme of the show was I immediately knew what I wanted to paint… the Lake Erie monster known as South Bay Bessie! Here are some details on her:
Bessie is a name given to an alleged lake monster in Lake Erie, also known as “South Bay Bessie” by locals. The first recorded sighting of Bessie occurred in 1817, and more sightings have occurred intermittently and in greater frequency in the last three decades. Bessie is reported to be snake-like and 9–12 m (30–40 ft) long, at least a foot in diameter with a greenish color. A reward of $100,000 has been offered by Huron Lagoons Marina for the capture of Bessie, dead or alive.

Painting in n progress, shading all done.
Here are a few documented sightings:
1960 - Ken Golic was fishing off a pier in Sandusky when he heard two rats. He decided to throw a couple of rocks at them when he saw the creature. He stated that it was cigar-shaped and came out of the water about 1-1 1/2 feet. It was about 11:00 PM on a clear, calm night.
1981 - Theresa Kovach of Akron saw a snake-like reptile that “was so large that could easily capsize a boat.” She saw Bessie while she was in a house on the Cedar Point Causeway as it was gamboling in the lake.
1983 - Mary M. Landoll saw Bessie before dawn by Rye Beach in Huron. Mary went out to the front porch just before dawn when the lake was quite placid. From the left end, she heard a rowing sound and saw what looked like a capsized boat. It was a greenish-brown color about 40-50 feet in length. Landoll realized that it wasn’t a boat, but an animal of some sort. It had a long neck and an eye was visible on the side of the head with a grin going up one side. The creature appeared to be playing in the water, but still put a scare into the witness.
1989 - Gail Kasner obtains a graph from a boat owned by Ken Smith, of Streetsboro. The fishfinder appears to show a sonar reading of a cigar-shape apparition about 35 feet in length at a depth of about 30 feet.
1990 - The Harold Bricker family was fishing north of Cedar Point Amusement Park when a serpentine creature swam by their boat. It was about thirty-five feet long and had a head like a snake’s. It moved as fast as their boat. Later, the Bricker’s reported their sighting to the ODNR rangers at East Harbor State Park.

Finished mounted painting for sale at the Space Gallery.
It’s been really busy at the shop the past few weeks (which is awesome) despite lots of Lake Effect snow. Here are a few recent tattoos I’ve done:
